Visiting
instrumentalists take the opportunity whilst in the area to visit the
local schools and teach. As a result of this we enjoyed the presence of
around thirty small children who attended a woodwind concert in 1998
following their music lessons during the day. They sat silent as church
mice throughout the two hour concert, absorbed by what they were
hearing.
In 1999 the primary
schools took time off to attend the lunchtime Brass concert in
Acharacle when Bryan Allen, of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music,
gave an interesting presentation on the workings of Brass instruments,
at once amusing and instructing the children.
In 2000, the Edinburgh
Quartet worked with Lochaber Music School and played with them at the
Lunchtime concert. Worthy of special mention were the three soloists,
Philip Cardwell (trumpet) who leaves school this year, Duncan
Strachan, 13, who gave a professional performance of the Sarabande and
two Bourees from Bach's suite in C for unaccompanied 'Cello, and
Catriona Lachlan on the Clarsach, or Celtic Harp.
